They married early, but had Carbon later in life, so her parents were always older than her friends' parents. The three of them lived in an apartment that was just a little too small for a family, since her parents' income as lawyers wasn't as prevalent in the practically lawless city of Arsheeity.
As a young teen, Carbon came out of the closet. Her parents didn't approve, or really believe her, but they supported and loved her all the say. A few years later, they died. Her father, then her mother six months later. Carbon was 17 at the time, so she kept living in the apartment on her own, taking care of herself.
It was around then she started to find parties, drinking with the frequent travelers that seem to be constantly flowing through Arsheeity. One night, she brought home a female traveler, a stranger, and had her first sexual experience with her. The woman left the next day, and Carbon never saw her again, and never wished to. She always regretted losing her virginity to a stranger, especially since she'd never had a romantic relationship before. To earn money, Carbon commissions her skills, performing jobs that she'd prefer the law never found out about. Theft, sabotage, you name it. Petty stuff like that.
